Welcome

If you know anything at all about Knox College, chances are you're familiar with our "superlative" creative writing program and top-notch publications such as Catch, Cellar Door, and The Common Room. Each fills a specific niche on campus: Catch is a highly selective, students-only literary magazine; Cellar Door is more inclusive, ephemeral, and features the work of faculty and guest writers in addition to that of students; The Common Room is a forum for outstanding critical essays on literature. These are all lovely publications, but there has been one conspicuous absence at Knox: no genre publications. Genre literature can be found on campus, if you look--it peeks tentatively out of workshop packets, swapped by students in dark corners, relegated to the periphery of Knox's rich literary tradition. Until now.

All along, Knox has been a home for many wonderful, internationally known writers of genre literature. Much is made of the fact that Carl Sandburg attended college here in Galesburg, but often overlooked are Knox alumni and genre authors such as Jack Finney, Eugene Field, and Sherwood Kiraly. These writers of speculative, children's, and comedic literature paved the way for us all--alumni and current students alike. This is our legacy. This is our tradition. We invite you to share it with us.

Sincerely,

The Editors
